Appendix F. Field Types

Super Admins can add build-your-own data fields through the Add a Data Field tool. These can be company, user or membership data fields.

There are three sets of Field Types: Basic, Additional and Advanced. Super Admins use Basic Field Types to add data collection fields, and Additional Field Types for specialized fields such as dates, file uploads and separators.

Advanced Field Types can only be added by Kavians, but once added, may be managed by Super Admins. Because these fields can only be added by Kavi, these Field Types are not documented here.

Table F.1. Basic Field Types

Field Type Description
Single Text Line A text entry field where the user can enter a short, plain text value.
Check Boxes A set of labeled check boxes. The user can select multiple boxes, and an 'Other' field may be enabled.
Radio Buttons A set of labeled radio buttons. The user can select only one of the radio buttons. An 'Other' field may be enabled.
Drop Down A select list from which the user can select a value. An 'Other' field may be enabled.
Text Area A text entry field where the user can enter a longer text value. This Field Type allows newlines and may accept HTML.

Table F.2. Additional Field Types

Field Type Description
Date A field that can be used to set a date. By default, the user has the option of setting a date through a pop-up calendar or a series of drop-down lists for month, day and year; or the date field can be freeform, in which case the user enters a free text value that is stored as a string.
Date and Time A field that can be used to set a date and time. By default, the user has the option of setting a date through a pop-up calendar or a series of drop-down lists for month, day and year; and entering time through a separate drop-down list. The Date and Time field can also be freeform, in which case the user enters a free text value that is stored as a string.
File Upload A field that allows users to upload a data file. The file can be selected by browsing or by entering a URL.
Separator A static, labeled separator displayed on forms to group the following data fields. Separators make long forms easier to use by dividing them up into smaller blocks.
